Fun Summer Recipes to Make with the Kids

School’s out, and the kitchen is open!

With the slower pace of summer and the kids home from school, now is the perfect time to get them involved in the kitchen. Cooking together is a great way to bond, build confidence, teach life skills—and most importantly—have fun.

One of my favorite ways to kick things off? Start with a trip to the farmer’s market! Let the kids help choose the fruits and vegetables they want to cook with. It’s a great opportunity to explore what’s in season, talk about where our food comes from, and make them more excited to try something new.

Here are a few healthy, kid-approved summer recipes that bring color, flavor, and a little creativity into your day:

1. Fruit & Yogurt Parfait Bar

Let the kids layer their own creations with Greek yogurt, granola, berries, bananas, and a drizzle of honey. Add chia seeds or coconut flakes for a fun twist. Set it up buffet-style and let everyone build their own breakfast or snack!

2. Mini Pita Pizzas

Give them their own mini pita or naan bread and a variety of toppings—tomato sauce, cheese, veggies, olives, or even pineapple. This one is a great way to get picky eaters trying new things.

3. Watermelon “Fries” with Yogurt Dip

Slice watermelon into sticks and serve with a tangy lime-yogurt dip. It’s refreshing, fun to eat, and perfect for a hot afternoon.

4. Frozen Banana Pops

Dip banana halves in yogurt or melted chocolate, roll in toppings like crushed cereal or sprinkles, and freeze. Great as a cool treat that doesn’t require an oven.

5. No-Bake Energy Bites

Let them get their hands messy mixing oats, nut butter, honey, and add-ins like mini chocolate chips or raisins. Roll into balls and refrigerate for a perfect snack.

Cooking with your kids doesn’t have to be complicated—it’s about connection, learning, and creating memories. These recipes are fun, flexible, and can be adapted to your family’s tastes and dietary needs.
